Hilo Farm Market
The Hilo Farm Market is a smorgasbord of sensory input. Displays of dragon fruit, lychee nuts, pineapples, apple bananas, butter avocados, Japanese eggplant, tumeric and ginger roots that are like gigantic multi-fingered hands, fresh tomatoes — everything you don’t really see in Maine in winter. It’s hard to select but we did well, and concocted a stir fry of baby bok choy, slim sliced Japanese eggplant, red onion, stir fried with chopped fresh ginger and tumeric, and pan-seared salmon in bite sized pieces. A side salad of fresh tomatoes, lettuce, carrots and incredible butter avocados. A delight for the senses rivaling any restaurant you might imagine And cooked on a doll-sized stove in our little kitchen. Served at our kitchen table with a bouquet of anthuriums, pincushion flowers, and sweet-smelling tuberose in a colorful display.
Ahhh…welcome to Hawaii. Screw the rain. It’s letting up a little today…
